By KTM Metro Reporter

October 2, 2013: the Indian and Nepalese armies have been on a joint training program in the northern state of Uttarakhand to ensure swift response to the natural disasters, xinhua quotes the local media report yesterday.

Indian Army chief General Bikram Singh and Nepalese Army Chief General Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana watched the combined training in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand on Monday, September 30.

The joint training named Surya Kiran V is currently underway in the state. It is the first battalion-level combined training program held between India and Nepal. Some 400 soldiers from each army are participating in the training mainly focused on the disaster response in a geologically disaster-prone zone of the Himalayas.

The next combined training will be held in Nepal in December this year, according to the defense official.
