BIMSTEC summit held in India

On November 13, 2008, Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda attended the second summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sector Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). He attempted to sell his idea of investing hydropower projects in Nepal to the dignitaries attending the BIMSTEC summit. He also called for setting up a permanent secretariat of BIMSTEC in Nepal.

Prime Minister Prachanda also held bilateral talks with other heads of state and Prime Minister.

The Summit agreed to set up a BIMSTEC Tourism Center in Nepal.

On Wednesday evening, November 12, 2008, Prime Minister Prachanda held bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the latter's official residence in New Delhi, India.

On November 12, 2008, Foreign ministers of seven member countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand discussed an agenda on free trade, greater link among the countries of BIMSTEC and combating terrorism. The seven ministers also completed a convention on combating terrorism to be signed at the summit meeting.
