Indefinite Curfew in Saptari

Issue 29, July 19, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On July 17, 2009, the Armed Police Force has killed a man and injured several others in Saptari after they have the heated argument over the locals carrying fertilizers purchased and brought from across the Nepal-India border. The police have said that they have brought the fertilizers illegally, however, the people living in the border areas could go across the border and buy their daily necessities.

Protesting against the high-handedness of the Armed Police, the locals have shutdown the traffic, they have even attempted to kill the disobeying driver sprinkling kerosene on his body and setting fire on his body.

The local administration has imposed an indefinite curfew in the surrounding areas of Saptari to bring the situation under control.
