Final Talks With Election-opposing Political Parties

August 14, 2013: Chairman of UCPN-Maoist has the meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today, and has informed the president on the four-party political mechanism holding decisive talks with the election-opposing political parties; they have been closer to reaching an agreement on all maters except for one or two; Chairman Prachanda has been confident in the opposition participating the elections scheduled for November 19, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonlie.com.’

 

Speaking to reporters at the Biratnagar Airport today morning, Former Prime Minister also UCPN-Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that final talks would be held with the opposition parties today evening; He also has said that the opposition parties would participate in the elections, as all their demands most likely would be met.

 

Finally, the government and the 33-party front led by the CPN-Maoist held talks in Lalitpur yesterday. Both sides agreed on resolving the problems of the key issues through talks, and making the elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA) a success, as there was no alternative to the elections, according to the news   on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

 

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Spokesperson for the government Madhav Prasad Poudel said that both sides agreed on holding the next talks in a special way. Spokesman Poudel said that the today's meeting was of a preliminary phase, so the government learned the views of the CPN-Maoist and the Front. He said that the government urged them to come with a small committee for a next round of talks; they took it positively.

 

Secretary of CPN-Maoist Dev Gurung said that the today's talks were focused on putting forth and hearing each other’s demands. He said, "We tabled our 18-point demands and put forth the overall view on behalf of the 33-parties. The government urged to form a small talks team and attend the next meeting. So, we will do the same as per the government's appeal and take part in the talks process, next time."

 

The 18-point demands are for scrapping of four-party mechanism, 11-point agreement signed between major political parties, 25-point ordinance that was issued to remove the obstacles, dissolving the government led by the Chief-Justice, and forming an election government of political parties among others.

 

Secretary Gurung said that they were not the anti-election forces but they were for moving ahead building a national political consensus. The next meeting will be first held with the four-party political mechanism on Wednesday and then with the government on Thursday, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
