CoAF Katuwal Submitted Explanations

Issue 17, April 26, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On April 22, 2009, the state-run media reported that Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Rukumangad Katuwal sent his assistants to submit the explanations to the office of the Prime Minister and of the Defense Ministry in the early office hours of Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

CoAS Katuwal has attempted to refute the allegations stating that he has followed the rules and regulations and the instructions of the government in the capacity of CoAS.

On April 22, 2009, talking to the anchor of the state-run Radio Nepal in its morning program called ‘Antar Sambad’ Maoist leader CP Gajurel has said that the explanation the CoAS has submitted to the government is in fact counter-claim and probably it would not satisfy the government,

Spokesperson for Nepali Congress Arjun Narsingh KC has said that the President is not happy with the government in taking the explanations from the CoAS and soon he would issue his instructions to the government.

Some leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) came out against the explanations sought by the government from the CoAS Katuwal. However, according to some news, the Chairman of the CPN-UML currently in China has agreed on taking actions against the CoAS.

The Nepali Congress parliamentarians have continued to boycott the parliamentary session protesting the government taking the explanations from the CoAS; however, they have not boycotted the allowances paid by the taxpayers’ money.
