Cold Weather In Nepal

February 18, 2013: the Kathmandu Valley has the 36.5 mm rainfall until yesterday evening making twice the average rainfalls for this month in the past. Around 95.7 mm rainfall was recorded in Nepalgunj. Birendranagar recorded 91.6 mm and Dhangadhi 62.6 mm in the last 24 hours. Load-shedding duration is expected to come down as the snowfall melts and increases the volume of water in the rivers, according to the HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE.

Continuous rainfall and heavy snowfall in the far-western districts during the last two days have hit the regular life in the region. Due to the heavy rainfall‚ transportation has been shut down in the region. Far-western Regional Administrator Atma Ram Pandey said the settlements in the high hills have been mostly affected by the snowfall. “Snowfall has forced people to stay indoors and schools also have been closed‚” HIMALAYANT NEWS SERVICE quoted him as saying. More than a dozen vehicles with hundreds of passengers have been stranded on the roads blocked by snow. Inspector Dilip Singh Bhandari of the District Police Office said‚ “The entire region has been reeling under extreme cold condition.”

Similarly, the uninterrupted snowfall at the higher Himalayan regions of the Eastern districts such as Makalu, Saisima, Guphapokhari, Sabhapokhari, Tutedeurali have forced the locals to remain in their houses, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
