Referendum On Making Nepal A Hindu State Or Not

Issue 17, April 25, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

April 19, 2010: former Panchas and current leaders of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Janaskati Party Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana and Surya Bahadur Thapa have said that they are for the referendum on making Nepal a Hindu state or not. They have voted for making Nepal a secular state at the Constituent Assembly; now, they have taken a u-turn and have followed their former college and current leader of Rastriya Prajantra Party-Nepal Kamal Thapa on this matter. Kamal thapa is the strong supporter of monarchy and a Hindu state.

Attempting to fish in the current murky political situation, these former politicians and opportunists of the failed corrupt and repressive Panchayat system have dreamed of their politically prosperous past and have voicing for the referendum on making Nepal a Hindu state or not. However, they have never thought of such action will spontaneously bring a conflict among the Nepalis of different faiths.

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Bijya Gacchedar has said that he is also for going to the people on deciding whether Nepal should be a Hindu state or not. Mr. Gacchedar is one of the most successful opportunists and currently dreaming of being a Prime Minister of Nepal.

Recently, speaking at a public rally, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that some of the regressive elements have been dreaming of using ‘Hindu’ as a tool to fight against the Maoists.
