An Account of An Election Observer

Issue 17, April 27, 2008

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Writing an article in the “San Francisco Chronicle” of April 24, 2008, one of the international election observers, Mr. Paul Costello member of international observer delegation headed by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said that on April 10 in the election held for a Constituent Assembly, millions of Nepalese showed up to vote, women in great numbers, in some places outnumbering men. They lined up for voting disregarding the hot afternoon sun. Some had walked for hours as the government forbad the transportation on the Election Day. As the polls closed, it was clear that fears of violence were unwarranted. Millions of Nepalese peacefully cast their vote.
