Kamalaris Determined To Fight For Their Rights
By KTM Metro Reporter
June 4, 2013: Kamalaris have been demanding the redress to the injustice done to them. They also have been demanding to bring the culprit of killing one of the Kamalaris in Kathmandu two years ago but the government of Chairman Khil Raj Regmi did not listen to them rather his home minister sent the riot police to hit the peacefully rallying Kamalaris at the Singhdurbar on Sunday making more than 10 Kamalaris unconscious and sending them to hospital for treatment.
Thus, the government has forced the Kamalaries to resort to the extreme violence of shutting down the 22 districts of the terai region. Obviously, the Kamalaris have no choice but to break the laws and even the constitution to force the government to listen to their legitimate demands. Thus, the government has been accountable for breaking the laws by the Kamalaris in this case. Chairman Regmi and his home minister should be brought to justice for creating such an extreme situation that forced the Kamalaris to punish the innocent people in the 22 districts violating the laws.
After the Kamalaris have been determined to enforce the shutdown of the 22 districts of the Terai region, and the 22 districts remained closed today, the government of Chairman Regmi sent a low level bureaucrat to negotiate with the Kamalaris. Kamalaris rightly refused to accept the letter of Chairman Regmi asking them to negotiate with the low level bureaucrat. Kamalaris also said that they were not for talking any team below the ministerial level team.
Thousands of commuters have been stranded at various places. They have to stay in buses in the unbearable heat of June in Terai. Many people shut down their businesses. Many wage earners could not go to work due to the shutdown.
Kamalaris have called an indefinite shutdown of the 22 districts. So, Chairman Regmi needed to be smart to avoid any sufferings of the innocent people due to the indifferent attitude of him toward the grievances of Kamalaris.
Kamalaris were the illegally bonded laborers. The government has recently freed them. The government has promised them for their rehabilitation but the government has failed to do anything to this end. So, Kamalaris have been demanding the government to keep the promises made to them.
