Karl Marx Reborn in Nepal

Issue 47, November 23, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Saturday, November 15, 2008, speaking to a mass meeting held by the Nepali Congress (NC) at Adarshanagar stadium in Birgunj as the part of national campaign for awareness against the so-called authoritarian regime, former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala said, “If we take out democracy from socialism, we are left with communism. Fusion of democracy and communism yields socialism. We did that in 1950.” He said, “the international community is confused by the Maoist-led government; foreigners’ opinion on Nepal has been set by the strategy the NC has adopted.”

Some political analysts say that the socialism adopted by NC President Girija Prasad Koirala has no democracy at all, as he often has resorted to the dictatorial method of running the NC; however, it did not lead to communism but more than often it had led to anarchism; if Koirala was correct in his saying he would have been a Karl Marx reborn in Nepal.
