Looming Crisis in Garbage Collection

On December 17, 2009, holding a press conference, the Local Body Joint Struggle Central Coordination Committee has said that the collection and management of garbage will come to standstill from December 20, 2009, as the government has failed in enforcing the agreements the government has reached with the Committee in the past; they will hold sit-ins at the state-secretariat Singha Durbar on December 24 and Ministry of Local Development on December 27 protesting against the government not enforcing the agreements.
All the staffs of the local administration have stopped working since December 15, 2009 protesting against not meeting their demands for permanent jobs, basic benefits as enjoyed by other state employees including the rights to set up a trade union, and amending the Local Governance Act to this end.
