Corrupt Politicians And Prime Minister Madhav Nepal

Issue 36, September 05, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 1, 2010: Ministry of Home Affairs has paid the bills of Rs 15.7 million for the helicopter services used by Home Minister Bhim Rawal and other CPN-UML leaders for their personal and party activities, despite the Secretary to Home Ministry Govind Kusum has refused to approve the bill for payment, neplnews.com reports quoting the ‘Annapurna Post’. Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal and officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal have put the pressure on the Home ministry to pay the bills according to the news report.

Home Minister Bhim Rawal himself had gone to many of the places using the helicopters, and used the Helicopters to ferry party leaders and cadres back and forth between convention center and various districts including Khotang, Accham, Okhaldhunga, Slaya and Taplejung during the CPN-UML general conventions.

At the instructions of Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, Finance Ministry officials have approved the amount with a warning of not paying any bills for such services availed for personal work in the future.

Thus, four CPN-UML leaders such as Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, Officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, and finally Home Minister Bhim Rawal have stolen Rs 15.7 million from the national treasury: the taxpayers’ money for their party convention.

On August 31, 2010, the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested and has succeeded to put the CPN-UML legislator Dol Bahadur (D.B) Karki for taking Rs 100,000 from a man for securing him a job of an Inspector in the Nepal Police. The poor guy Karki has been under the judicial custody for taking a small amount in comparison with the amount paid for the helicopter uses by the CPN-UML leaders and cadres. The four big shots of the same party Messer Jhalanath Khanal, Madhav Nepal, Surendra Pandey, and Bhim Rawal have not fallen in the net of the CIAA, how has such thing happen? These CPN-UML guys have broken any record of corruption even in Nepal.

Issuing a press statement, Chairman of the CPN-UML Disciplinary Commission Amrit Kumar Bohara has regretted the incident of CPN-UML legislator Karki taking a bribe; the CPN-UML has formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the alleged charge against Karki and submit the report to the party at the earliest; Chief whip of the CPN-UML Bhim Acharya said that the party would initiate action against him if he was found guilty, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 1, 2010 reports. However, the CPN-UML has done nothing for the four CPN-UML leaders stealing so large amount from the taxpayers’ money.
