Contradictory Statement of Maoists’ Leaders

Kathmandu: On March 06, 2008, CPN-Maoist Chairman Prachanda said that his party would respect the outcome of the election for a Constituent Assembly (CA) to be held on April 10, 2008 and would pursue a competitive multiparty polity making Nepal a federal democratic republic in view of the national unity. He pointed out the need for the representation of all the political parties in the CA, as it was going to craft a new constitution. He made it clear that the federal democratic republican system was necessary for making sure the proportional representation of all the oppressed communities, gender, and the classes in the state agencies.
Gorkha: In course of the election campaign in his constituency, Maoists’ second-in-command Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said that his party should win the election for a CA, if it would fail to win the election, his party would start a new movement. However, he did not disclose what sorts of movement he has in the mind.
