Humiliating Statement In Nepalese Citizenship Certificates

Issue 37, September 15, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 12, 2013: children of sex workers have received Nepalese citizenship certificates in the far western Nepal after the enforcement of the law that gives children the rights to receive citizenship certificates from the citizenships of their mothers; however, they found out the humiliating provision in their citizenship certificates, as the district administration office wrote ‘father unknown’ in the column made in the citizenship certificates for the name of a father, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

So, young generation people found it very humiliating. They are not for accepting such citizenship certificates with the shameful provision. They want the column where the name of a father has to be written leave vacant rather than filling out with the disgraceful statement ‘father unknown’. They have said that the State has given them the citizenship certificates but the humiliation, too.

They also have complained that not only they get humiliated at the time of getting citizenship certificates but also at the time of registering the birth of children, as the concerned officials ask very objectionable questions while registering the birth of children.
