Three Candidates for One Prime Ministerial Position

Issue 30, July 25, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 20, 2010: as anticipated, leaders of three major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML have registered their names for the candidate for the position of Prime Minister to be elected by the 601-member legislature on July 21, 2010.

All the three leaders have demonstrated that they have reconciled with their rivals. Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai proposed the name of Prachanda for the candidate for the position of Prime Minister and another Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha seconded it at the secretariat of the legislature on July 20, 2010; senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed Ram Chandra Poudel for the same and KB Gurung seconded it; Officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal proposed Jhalanath Khanal and Poudel seconded it.

The fourth block of power at the legislator: the Madheshi political parties did not see it necessary to give it candidate for Prime Minister even though they had claimed for leading a new government in the past.
