Stopping Indian-owned Vehicles In Nepal Serious Matter

September 28, 2012: Prime Minister Dr. Babuaram Bhattarai has instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gacchedar to strongly deal with those stopping Indian-owned vehicles running in Nepal. Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai called DPM Gachchhadar out at his Baluwatar residence today morning and gave the instructions, as stopping Indian-owned vehicles in Nepal was a serious matter and needed to be dealt with strongly. Home Minister Gacchedar in turn informed the prime minister that he had given an order to the security agencies to take necessary actions against those trying to obstruct Indian vehicles, according to nepalnews.com
The CPN-Maoist made a decision on banning India-owned vehicles, Indian movies and Indian songs in Nepal on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, and the cadres had started off enforcing the decision on Thursday, September 27, 2012.
The Security force had arrested CPN-Maoist cadres when they were enforcing the ban on Indian-owned vehicles in different parts of Chitwan, according to nepalnews.com. The CPN-Maoist shut down Chitwan today protesting the arrest of its cadres for obstructing the Indian-owned vehicles running in the district. The party withdrew the shutdown of Citwan after the Security released 13 cadres.
The top leaders of the UCPN-Maoist and UDMF have agreed to foil the illegal activities of the CPN-Maoist banning vehicles with Indian license plates and the Indian films in Nepal. The UDMF also demanded the government to immediately stop the Maoists' illegal activities that would anger the neighboring country, according to ‘The Himalayan Times.’
In a press statement released today, All Nepal Indian Ex-servicemen's Welfare Association has shown its concerns over the CPN-Maoist enforcing the ban on Indian-owned vehicles running and showing Indian movies, airing Indian songs on FM radios and selling Indian newspapers and magazines in Nepal, according to ‘THT ONLINE.’
Speaking in Itahari yesterday, Minister for Health Rajendra Mahato bashed the CPN-Maoist’s ban on Indian-owned vehicles and Indian movies running in Nepal in the name of nationalism. He ridiculed the CPN-Maoist stating it is a foreign name and has been using foreign vehicles but launching a protest against India, according to ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE.’
