Former King In A Voyage To Districts

Issue 40, September 30, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 24, 2012: former king Gyannedra Shah taking a shelter at the Fish-tail Hotel in Pokhara was visiting shrines to various deities in the western districts. Local political cadres have opposed his visits to the districts stating Mr. Shah has been trying to fish in the murky political water. They had shut down Myagdi district when Shah was scheduled to visit there forcing him to cancel his visit. Similarly, cadres of all political parties at other districts too opposed the Shah’s visit to their districts and called a shutdown during his scheduled visit. Local administration has informed Shah that the administration would not be able to manage the security for him during his visit to districts. Mr. Shah had been riding a motor vehicle escorted by the motorcycle riders.

The CPN-UML has fired its Baglung district committee member Jabbar Bahadur Lamichhane for meeting with former king Gyanendra Shah in Baglung on Saturday, September 22, 2012, and suggesting him to join in active politics. Lamichhane had joined the CPN-UML after quitting the royalist party called Rastriya Prajatantra Party; the CPN-UML district committee along with other local bodies of major parties had opposed the former king's visit to Baglung, according to nepalnews.com

Various political parties enforced a traffic shutdown for one hour on the Tanahu portion of the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway today morning protesting against the former king Gyanendra Shah's visit to Damauli. The former king's trip has provoked protests in various districts stating he is trying to take political advantage of the current country's political imbroglio, according to nepalnews.com.

Gyanendra Shah as a part of his religious tour to the western district visited Syangja yesterday. As many as 100 motorcyclists from the Shiv Sena Nepal had escorted Shah to the Shiva Temple in Gunikhola at the Putali Bazaar at 2.45 pm, and made offerings to Lord Shiva, according to ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.

Mr. Shah could do better if he were not stingy. He could use a helicopter rather than hundreds of motorcycles on the road. He could easily avoid the protests by the local political cadres if he were to use the sky for traveling to different destinations. However, he was so stingy that he was not to use even few thousands of many millions if not billions of rupees he had accumulated from the business done using his royal status at the cost of millions of Nepalis. Mr. Shah said that his dynasty had not caused any convenience to the people but the Shah dynasty had kept the Nepalis in poverty more than two-and-a-half centuries. Nepalis needed to live in poverty, as the Shah rulers took everything away from the people for their luxurious lives. Mr. Shah should tell the people how did he earn so much of the property he had.
