Lightning Kills Eleven People in Nepal

On June 23, 2009, lightning has killed eleven people, and injured several other people and some cattle in different districts such as Siraha, Rauthut and Nawalparasi of the Tarai areas. Reporters have said that lightning has hit mostly the houses where the cell-phone antennae are fitted.

After a long dry spell, the clouds coming from the east has showered the eastern Nepal pleasing the farmers who have seen disappointed and hard hit by the long dry spell. Crops such as millet and corn have been the victims of the dry spell. Production of these two crops may be reduced by about 50% causing food shortage in the hills.
