Relief Supplies Only Through State Mechanism

KTM Metro Reporter

August 15, 2017

Kathmandu: Home Minister Janardam Sharma said that the Central Disaster Relief Committee under his ministry would provide the floods victims with the relief supplies; Home ministry urged anybody willing to contribute relief supplies such as tents, pots and pans, rice lentils and clothing to contact the Relief Collection Coordination Committee set up under the coordination of the Joint Secretary of Home Ministry Mr Kedar Neupane, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.

Home Minister Sharma said that distribution of relief supplies done by individuals and philanthropic organizations has been erratic, and some receive more than what they needed while others did not receive anything.

While speaking to the floods victim at Itahari in the Sunsari district yesterday, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that distribution of relief supplies should not be delayed at any cost; if the highways and roads don’t permit to bring in the supplies then buy them at the local market.

Floods in the national parks in the east, at the center and in the west have killed many animals including the rare animals. The floods in the Koshi Tapu Reservation Area in the east had swept the wild water buffalos, killed a one-horn-two-year old rhino in the Chitwan National Park at the center, and 30-40 deer in the Bardia National Park in the west, and many other wild animals, the news in “gorkhaaptra” of today stated.

Floods have damaged culverts, bridges, roads, and highways in many areas requiring large-scale reconstruction involving billions of NPR. Floods also have damaged rice crop in thousands of hectors of land. Floods also damaged private houses and everything in them including food grain, and other daily necessities.
