China providing Nepal with Rs 200 million for security Purchase

On Sunday morning, December 07, 2008, Secretary to Ministry of Defense of Nepal Baman Prasad Neupane and visiting Deputy Chief of General Staff of People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China Lieutenant General Ma Xiaotian signed an agreement on providing Nepal with Rs 200 million for security. The money is for buying non-lethal military equipment.

The current agreement signed between Nepal and China was the total amount of assistance committed by the Chinese Government at the time of the China visit of Nepalese Chief of Army Staff General Rukmangud Katuwal in January 2008, and Nepalese Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' in September 2008.

Chinese team headed by Lieutenant General Ma Xiaotian had talks with Nepalese Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' at the Ministry of Defense before the agreement was signed.

The ten-member Chinese team headed by Lieutenant General Ma Xiaotian arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday, December 06, 2008.
