Bullying The Rule Of Law By Former Law-Enforcement Officer

June 24, 2011: former Inspector General of Nepal Police Om Bikram Rana has yesterday refused to accept the subpoena of the Special Court served by the messenger of the District Court, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. Mr. Rana was implicated in the multi-million dollars scandal involving the purchase of armored vehicles and materials required for the Nepalese UN Peace Mission to Darfur, Sudan.

The top former law-enforcement officer Rana has rejected to follow the rule of law refusing to accept the subpoena served to him at his residence indicating his active involvement in the corruption case. The Special Court needs to use its legal and state force to bring Mr. Rana to justice.

The Nepal Police had borrowed the money from the provident fund deposited by thousands of Nepal Police staffs for purchasing the armored vehicles and materials required for the Nepalese UN Peace Mission in Sudan. The UN refused to reimburse millions of dollars to the Nepal Police finding the armored vehicles and materials were not usable.
