December 3, 2012: the ruling UCPN-Maoist party yesterday asked the opposition parties to join Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai’s government for making it a national consensus government but the NC and the CPN-UML rejected the offer outright.

Spokesman Sapkota was sure that Bhattarai would lead a next national consensus government.
Meanwhile, the NC also yesterday held separate meetings with CPN-UML, and CPN-Maoist: the breakaway faction of the UCPN-Maoist in an attempt to mobilize the support for toppling the government led by the UCPN-Maoist, according to zeenes.india.com. During the talks, the top leaders of NC, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist said that the resignation of Bhattarai was the first condition for reaching an agreement with the ruling alliance, according to the NC sources. The opposition parties said that they would not sit for talks to seek other alternative unless the prime minister stepped down.
However, the ruling UCPN-Maoist claimed that it would lead the next government of a national consensus; the opposition parties such as NC and CPN-UML would join it.
President of NC Sushil Koirala claimed that political parties would reach a deal on a national unity government within the extended deadline of December 6, as political parties already agreed on a NC-led unity government, and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai assured him of not blocking to building a political consensus on the thorny issues including CA polls and a unity government.
Today, chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai separately met with the NC President Sushil Koirala.
Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal challenged the NC President Sushil Koirala to name a candidate for a new prime minister immediately otherwise the CPN-UML would do so in the near future.
Today, leaders of the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML have agreed to reach a package deal making it possible to form a new unity government and hold elections to a new CA. However, the party of the ethnic groups and the CPN-Maoist: the breakaway of the UCPN-Maoist have already declared that they would not accept any deal only the three parties have reached.
The NC President Sushil Koirala has said that the president in his capacity as the preserver of the constitution has no right to give advises to the political parties countering President Ram Baran Yadav’ call on the opposition parties to join the current government to give it to the shape of a national consensus, made while speaking in Pokhara on Saturday, December 3, 2012, according to the ekantipur.com.
