Ethnic and Madheshi Nepalis Rally for proportional Representation
The state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of November 01, 2007 reported that on October 31, six different fronts representing ethnic and Madheshi Nepalis staged a sit-in rally at the Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu calling for the adoption of an electoral system that would ensure representation of all ethnic and Madheshi Nepalis in a constituent assembly proportional to their population, and for the declaration of Nepal a republic by the Interim Legislature.
They held the sit-in rally to press the six-party alliance and the CPN-Maoist to forge the unity among the partners in the current special session of the Legislature, to immediately proclaim Nepal a republic and to adopt an electoral system that would ensure proportional representation of all Nepalis in a constituent assembly.
The participating Fronts are United Tamang Republican Front, Nepal; United Republican Dalit Front, Nepal; Tharu National Liberation Front, Nepal; Madheshi National Liberation Front, Nepal; Majhi National Liberation Front, Nepal; and Hyolmo National Liberation Front, Nepal.
