No Possibility Of Longer Blackouts As Transformers Damaged
By KTM Metro Reporter
April 18, 2013: the 32 MW Kulekhani-II has stopped functioning after the fire damaged three transformers including the core transformer at the Bhainse VDC-1 of the Makawanpur district on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, according to the news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’. Rs 40 million worth of the assets was destroyed.
How the transformers caught fire was not known yet. Lightning and rains had been there. "We have yet to confirm how the bushing machines caught fire despite low generation of power during the accident," said Chief of the Project KP Yadav.
The cost of repairing the transformers would be around Rs. 30 million and time required would be about six months, said Project Chief yadav, "As we have to import the transformer from abroad, it may take some time."
However, the Nepal Electricity Authority said no additional load shedding would be despite the Kulekhani II dysfunction, as the NEA has option to run the diesel plant in Hetauda to meet the loss.
Talking to ‘The Rising Nepal’, Chief at the Load Dispatch Centre at the NEA Bhuwan Chhetri said that the load shedding would not increase further as the NEA would compensate the power deficit through the operation of the diesel plant in Hetauda.
The full capacity of the Kulekhani II hydropower project was 32 MW, but it was contributing only 10MW power, according to gorkhapatraonline.com,
