Developing Lumbini As World-class Buddhist Shrine

November 8, 2012: co-chairman of Broader Lumbini Development National Direction Committee Prachanda also the chairman of UCPN-Maoist, and Executive vice-chairman of the Hong Kong-based the Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (APECF) Xiao Wunan signed a multi-billion dollar agreement to develop Lumbini as a world-class Buddhist shrine and the World Peace City according to nepalnews.com 

At a function held at the Hotel Soaltee in Kathmandu, Prachanda on behalf of the committee and Xiao Wunan on behalf of the APECF signed off the agreement. The agreement signed is for developing infrastructures such as roads, and railways, modern communication network, star hotels and international airport to make Lumbini a modern satellite city. 

Although the APECF has signed the agreement on providing the necessary resources to build all sorts of modern infrastructures, the money is actually coming from the Beijing according to various news agencies reporting on this matter.
