NEFIN Sets Fire On The Census Report

Issue 50, December 9, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 4, 2012: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has set fire on the copies of the census report published by the Central Department of Statistics last week stating it has excluded 14 ethnic indigenous groups, according to the nepalnews.com.

A group of NEFIN activities assembled at the Central Department of Statistics at Thapathali on Sunday afternoon, December 2, 2012, and set fire on the copies of census report to protest the exclusion of 14 ethnic groups such as Thakali, Marfali, Siyar, Sure, Larke, Mugaal, Bahra Gaunle, Teen Gaunle, Bankariya, Free, Chhairotan, Tangwe and Thudam.

The NEFIN activists said that the Central Department of Statistics had taken the census without following the scientific method; so, it needed to do it again to include all indigenous groups and their languages. To this end, the department needs to involve the representatives of the concerned groups in taking the census.
