Kathmandu-Hetauda Fast Track In Making

May 15, 2012: the government of Nepal has reached a deal on the construction of Kathmandu-Hetauda Fast-Track Highway with the Nepal Purbadhar Bikash Company Limited (Nepal Infrastructure Development Company Limited).

Ministry of Physical Planning and Works on behalf of the government of Nepal and Nepal Purbadhar Bikash Company Limited have signed off the deal at the hall of National Planning Commission (NPC) at Singh Durbar in the presence of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai today.

The length of the Kathmandu-Hetauda Fast Track will be 48 km including 3 km tunnel that will be cut through the hill on the way. The total estimated cost is 20 billion Nepalese rupees.

With the completion of the Kathmandu-Hetauda Fast Track, travelers can reach Hetauda from Kathmandu in an hour. Currently, it takes 7 to 8 hours traveling along the three alternative ways between Hetauda and Kathmandu.

Addressing the function held to sign an agreement between the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works and Nepal Purbadhar Bikas Company Limited at the National Planning Commission (NPC), Singh Durbar, today, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said that it was one of the first large projects to be constructed following the public-private partnership. The prime minister also urged the government officials, private sector and the people to make the project a landmark project that could help boost the investment climate in the country and also help enhance the morale of foreign investors, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Speaking at the same function, Vice-Chairman of the NPC Dipendra Bahadur Kshetri said that the project was started off clearing off some legal and policy level hindrances to start a BOOT model of project implementation.

At the same function, Chairman of the Nepal Purbadhar Bikas Company Limited, Kush Kumar Joshi said that the construction of the Kathmandu-Hetauda Fast Track would contribute to the economic efficiency of the country.
