Maoists for Showdown with Others on Issue of CoAS
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
Maoist leaders have intensified in public their call for taking actions against the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS). Some of them have hinted that the Maoist Government needs to take actions against the CoAS even if they have to be out of the government. Which turn the issue of firing the CoAS would take depends primarily on Prime Minister’s skill in managing the crisis.
The Nepali Congress members of parliament have been disrupting the parliamentary sessions demanding to take back the actions of the government against the CoAS. However, former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has remained silent on this issue, so far.
The leaders of CPN-UML have been divided on this issue. Deputy Prime Minister with portfolio of Home Bamdev Gautam has been for firing the CoAS; however, some other leaders such as Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Oli have been against firing the CoAS.
Spokesman for the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) has said that firing the CoAS needs to be based on the consensus politics; unilateral actions against the CoAS would not be acceptable to the MPRF.
