Follow Directives Say Parents To PABSON

Issue 12, March 24, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 23, 2013: Guardians’ Association Nepal yesterday held a rally in front of the office of Private and Boarding School Association Nepal’s (PABSON), protesting against the PABSON’s decision on not following the Institutional School Measurement Directives (ISMD) put to effect recently by the Ministry of Education, according to the ‘Gorkhapatraonline.com’ news of yesterday. The Association has held the rally to end the monopoly of the private schools on charging higher fees to the students.

The central committee of PABSON said that the government did not include their suggestions in the directives. Therefore, the committee declared that they would not abide by the directives unless and until the government included their suggestions in the directives. The PABSON has expressed concern over the provision made in the directives for allowing only 22 students in a class, and the private schools must have school building on their own lands.

The guardians in turn demanded the PABSON follow the directives, as the directives were formulated with the representatives of the PABSON, and the directives are in the interest of the students, the PABSON, and certainly of the parents.

Chairman of Guardians’ Association Nepal, Suprabhat Bhandari said that it was shame on the PABSON not to follow their own decisions. Therefore, the guardians would continue to protest until the PABSON followed the directives. However, another umbrella organization of the private schools, National Private and Boarding School Organization Nepal (N-PABSON) has decided to follow the directives.

It was not fair for the PABSON not to follow the directives, as they were prepared in the joint efforts of the government and the PABSONs. "But we have put some conditions and suggestions," said Geeta Rana, Chairperson of the N-PABSON, "We hope that due attention will be given gradually towards the suggestions." Chairperson Rana suggested that it was right to allow only 22 students in a class but there should be clear provision for students' number for admission according to the category of schools.
