Rare Hope For More Power
By KTM Metro Reporter
July 23, 2012: several ongoing power projects are expected to complete in this fiscal year adding 70 MW power to the national grid, as the projects such as Chameliya Project 30 MW, Spring and Tallomodi 10 MW each, Aakhu 8 MW, Bijayapur 4.5 MW, Siuri Project 5 MW and other small hydro power projects would come to operation this year, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’ the Ministry of Power.
However, the daily power outage will not come to an end for some time to come as the demand for power reaches 1163 MW by the end of the current FY but the production capacity will remain well below the demand, according to the state power company: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). NEA has been importing 145 MW power from India to mitigate the power shortage.
Thanks to the Girija administration for about 20 years, Nepal has been in darkness, as even a single power projects was not built during the Girija administration. So, Nepalis have to live in darkness even though Nepal has potential power generation of 83,000 MW.
