November 27, 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the bidding process for tunnel and intake construction of the most-awaited Melamchi Drinking Water Project (MDWP), the government of Nepal on Friday had forwarded it to the head office of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila for approval.

The government of Nepal had terminated the contract with China Railway 15 Bureau Group for constructing the 27.5 kilometer-long tunnel and intake, as it did not meet the construction requirement.

ADB is the major funding agency for the multi-billion dollar Melamchi Drinking Water Project. After the completion of this project, the people in the Kathmandu Valley would have sufficient water at least for some decades. Currently, Kathmanduites get the once-a-week water supply.
