Chhath Festival
By Kathmandu Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On October 22, 2009, another important festival called ‘Chhath’ has started. Mostly the Nepalis living in Mithila and Bhojpur areas celebrate this festival starting on the fifth day of the bright fortnight in Kartik of the Vikram calendar and ending on the eight day.
Devotees make offerings to the rising sun and the setting sun on one day and another standing on the bank of water sources such as ponds, rivers and so on. Nepalis believe that the god will meet the wishes of the devotees if they correctly make offerings to the deity. Some devotees stand for hours in the knee-deep water praying to the god for meeting their wishes.
