What A Contradiction

Issue 46, November 15, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On November 11, 2009, upon return from India, Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) Jhalanath Khanal has said that the statement of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the need for a national government in Nepal does not go against his party line, as his party has been advocating for such a government. However, the government of the senior leader of his party Madhav Nepal has strongly opposed the statement of the UN Secretary General on this matter saying it is the interference in the internal affairs of Nepal and has even initiated to get the explanations from the UNMIN for this matter.

In addition, Chairman Khanal has said that the Indian leaders are for the consensus politics and writing of a new constitution as soon as possible. He has been in India for a weeklong visit reportedly in the invitation of the Indian leaders. He has met with the Indian Prime Minister at the last moment.

Nepalese leaders have to rush to India for the support of the Indian leaders for them, as they could not stand on their own feet. Such a situation has arisen because of their infightings. They could stand the pressure of the international community has been demonstrated in the past when they were united but now they need to seek someone’s help.
