Indian Army Chief Visits Nepal

July 10, 2012: Indian Army Chief of Staff Gen Bikram Singh is in Nepal at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Gen Chhatraman Singh Gurung on a five-day visit. The Indian Army chief held a meeting with Gen Chhatraman Singh Gurung in Kathmandu today, and also met senior Nepal Army officials after his meeting with Gen Gurung, writes the Press Trust Of India.
Gen Singh laid a wreath at Bir Smarak at the Nepal Army Pavilion situated in Tundikhel in Kathmandu.
He has on his agenda to call on Nepalese President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai tomorrow.
The Nepalese head of state will confer the title of honorary general of Nepal Army on Gen Singh. Both countries have practiced such offer of honorary general to the chiefs of army of both countries since 1965.
Gen Singh will visit the Nepal Army's training centers such as the Peacekeeping Training Center at Panchkhal and Mountain Warfare Training Centre in Mustang. He will visit the Indian Army Pension Camp and Nepal Army Western Divisional Headquarters in Pokhara on Thursday, according to the officials of the Nepal Army Headquarters. Gen Singh also will visit the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini and address the 19th command and staff course cadets on Friday.
