TU Rescinds Affiliation Given To KNMC

KTM Reporter

September 7, 2017

Kathmandu: On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, under the mounting pressure of the media, and surely of the Nepal Medical Council, and Dr Govinda KC, the Tribhuvan University (TU) administration rescinded the affiliation given to Kathmandu National Medical College (KNMC) in Kathmandu.

Prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba as the ex-officio Chancellor of the TU had to instruct the TU administration to annul the affiliation given to the KNMC, as it had not meet the requirements for running a medial college. The TU administration revoked the affiliation following the report a three-member probe committee led by Sanat Devkota to inspect the infrastructure of the KNMC prepared and submitted to the TU.

The TU administration had issued an affiliation to the KNMC only a few weeks ago when Dr Govinda KC was on the hunger strike demanding not to open any medical colleges in Kathmandu for at least 10 years.
