Phony Alcohol and Nepal Police

On February 3, 2009, speaking at the radio program called ‘Antar-sambad’ of the state-run radio called Nepal Radio, the chief of the consumer’s protection organization said that the Nepal Police confiscate alcohol with fake-custom-paid stickers and phony alcohol with commercial brand names but do not take any actions against the companies. The chief said that the commercial companies are responsible for such phony alcohol sold under their brand names the local markets, so, they need to pay compensation for the loss and damaged done by consuming the phony alcohol. Some reporters even suspected that the reputed commercial companies have been engaged in producing such phony alcohol.

Recently, a few Nepalis died of consuming the phony alcohol with the brand names of reputed commercial companies. Some lost eyesight.

Speaking at the radio program, the Police Officer said that there was not a huge mafia producing such phony alcohol but small domestic producers had been doing this wrong business. The Police had already busted them for producing such illegal alcohol.
