No Death Of Reporters In Nepal This Year Reports CPJ

Issue 52, December 23, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 19, 2012: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) stated in its annual report of 2012 that none of the reporters was killed in Nepal this year despite the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) reported that three journalists/media owners were murdered, 43 attacked and two others displaced in this year, according to the news posted on the nepalnews.com today.

Previously, the international watchdog CPJ had put Nepal on its Impunity Index that measured the reputation of countries as the killers of reporters, and of freeing perpetrators of crimes with impunity.

On December 16, 2012, the FNJ reported that the police arrested the station in-charge of Radio Mugu, Suman Malla for five hours following the order of the District Administration Office on December 14. The District Administration sought the evidence of the illegal weapons reported by the Radio Mugu a few days ago, nepalnews.com writes quoting the state-run news agency RSS.

"It is infringement of press freedom to take journalists under control as per the orders of a responsible body of the state, instead of following legal means of expressing disagreement or registering complaint over any concerns about the truth of news disseminated from any media", nealnews.com quotes the statement of the FNJ released on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
