Issue 11, March 14, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

March 10, 2010: speaking at the function held by General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union to mark 100th International Women’s Day on March 8, 2010, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that the government is quite sure to promulgate the new constitution on time.

Whereas speaking at the function held by the Free Students’ Union (FSU), Shanker Dev Campus, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, CPN-UML leader Pradip Gyawali has said that the doubt about the timely drafting of a new constitution has increased as the UCPN-Maoist leaders are giving a top priority to changing the government than to writing a constitution.

At the same time, Vice Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that the country would revert to the confrontation and conflict if the Constituent Assembly fails in promulgating a new constitution on May 28, 2010.

Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) Upendra Yadav has said that the current government headed by Madhav Nepal defeated in the polls has totally failed in performing its duties causing the increased anarchism and murder of reporters and media people; so, a national unity government is required for saving the country from the current chaotic situation.

The CPN-UML leaders should convinced themselves of the current government cannot promulgate a new constitution as it is the government of a simple majority whereas promulgating a new constitution requires the two-third majority.
