Government Recommends President To Amend Ordinance

Issue 39, September 29, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 24, 2013:  the government has recommended the president to amend the 25-point Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance to include the use of the Nepal Army for the smooth holding the elections to a new constituent assembly in November this year, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

A few days ago, the government had submitted the proposal for using the Nepal Army for peacefully holding the elections but President Dr Ram Baran Yadav found it not constitutional to approve it after consulting with the constitutional experts and the attorney general. So, the president sent it back to the government for correction.

Amending the 25-point Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance will pave the way for the government deploying the Nepal Army for smoothly holding the elections. However, the CPN-Maoist has been against the use of the Nepal Army for the security of polls. Leaders of the CPN-Maoists are boycotting the elections, and even are for disrupting the elections stating they are not for participating the elections held by the current non-political-party government.
