Punish Tibetan Protestors says Chinese Ambassador to Nepal
By KTM Reporter in Kathmandu
On Monday, May 12, 2008, speaking at the press conference held at the Reporters’ Club in Kathmandu, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Zheng Xianglin said that the Government of Nepal arresting Tibetan protestors in the morning and setting them off in the evening has been doing not enough to stop the protests against China in Nepal. His Excellency Xianglin said that the Government of Nepal should severely punish the Tibetan exiles for staging anti-China rallies almost every day in Kathmandu. However, His Excellency did not elaborate what ‘severely’ meant.
His Excellency does not wish to understand that Nepal is a democratic country, and the Government cannot do anything that goes against fundamental human rights. To stage a peaceful rally for expressing anybody’s grievances is the fundamental human rights. So, the Government of Nepal needs to let the Tibetan exiles to stage peaceful rallies for expressing their grievances.
The ambassador also blamed some international agencies including the UN Agencies and human rights organizations for backing up the protest rallies in Kathmandu, and for putting pressure on the Government of Nepal to be lenient on the protestors.
