March 2, 2011: UCPN-Maoist is joining the Khanal government after the prime minister has assured the UCPN-Maoist leaders of enforcing the seven-point deal Chairman of UCPN-Maoist had reached with Chairman of CPN-UML just before electing Khanal a new prime minister on February 03, 2011.
"We are not demanding the Home Ministry. We are only demanding a guarantee to implementation of the seven-point agreement. Home Ministry was not the bottom line of Maoists, so we are ready to join the government if the prime minister agreed to implement the deal," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today quoted Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Baidhya.
Probably, the UCPN-Maoist is sending a team of eleven members headed by Chief of Foreign Department Krishna Bahadur Mahara to join the Khanal government. Recently Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been a constant companion of Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda.
The CPN-UML leaders have been saying that the UCPN-Maoist leaders have refused to join the Khanal government, as Khanal under the pressure of his rivals in his party has been reluctant to shed the portfolio of Ministry of Home Affairs, and wants to keep it for himself.
NC leaders have been demanding to scrap the seven-point deal the UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML have reached, as a condition to join the Khanal government. Previously, senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that he is for supporting the seven-point deal for the sake of completing the peace process and the constitution writing but recently he has jumped on the bandwagon of the leaders protesting it according to the Nepalese media reports.
