Girija Asks For Chinese Help In Peace Process

Issue 10, March 01, 2010

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The high-level Chinese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lio Jay met with ailing Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala at his residence in Kathmandu and has had talks with him concerning the bilateral issues and the peace process in Nepal. During the meeting Girija Prasad Koirala has asked the Chinese delegation for the assistance in completing the peace process in Nepal according to the online newspaper ‘The Himalayan Times’ of February 28, 2010.

Nepalese politicians have been using the China-card for offsetting the growing Indian influence in the Nepalese politics. Most probably, Girija Prasad Koirala must be thinking to use the same China-card to counteract the Indian influence that has been growing in a scale unprecedented in the Nepalese history. However, Girija Prasad Koirala and his family have been pro-Indian in the past and his daughter Sujata Koirala is still pro-Indian. So, most of Nepalis would hardly believe Girija Prasad Koirala using the China-card for balancing the Indian influence in Nepal.
