Protesting Against Ruling of The Supreme Court Of Nepal On Corruption

Issue 34, August 19, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 16, 2012: myrepublica.com has run a cartoon showing the NC leaders and their cadres holding placards and shouting ‘Down With The Oppression Against Corruption’. These NC guys have not only shouted such an appropriate slogan to their party but also have initiated to find out how to save the corruption-convicted Khum Bahadur Khadka. If they succeed to free Mr. Khadka from the corruption conviction then the government should declare corruption is legal in Nepal. In fact, Girija Prasad Koirala: the revered leader of the NC had made it almost legal making everybody possible to collect bribe over the counter in 1990s when most of the time Girija was in power. Now, these shameless NC leaders have come out to protect their corrupt colleagues. Today, they will protect Khadka, tomorrow; they will save Govinda Raj Joshi: another corrupt NC leader convicted by the Special Court. Nepalis need to rise up en mass against such corrupt leaders and their political party.

Take a look at the pictures of Vice-president of NC Ram Chandra Poudel when he came to Kathmandu in 1990 and now; everyone will find the vast difference. At that time he was so thin he looked more like a sick man than a leader of NC now he looks really a NC leader with the bulging belly. How he could make such a weight gain and have a house in Kathmandu if he was sincere in working as a minister in the past.

So, it was not surprise that such NC leaders are for protecting the convicted high-profile thieves and criminals. In fact, they must have been very concerned with the Court that might implicit other leaders, too in stealing the national wealth. There is saying in Nepali ‘lahara tanda pahara auncha’ means ‘pulling vines will pull down the wall’.

These NC leaders and their cadres have disgraced the historical political party such as NC that had led the Nepalis to tear down the Rana regime in 1951 then the Panchayat regime in 1990, and ultimately the monarchy in 2008 but now they have unfortunately given the impression of the NC as nothing but the party of the corrupt leaders and their cadres. Disregarding the reputation of the NC, its cadres have been protesting the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal on convicting the corrupt Khadka and sending him to jail. Shame on all the members of the NC party and of the entire sister organizations affiliated to the NC for protecting the thieves that had stolen the national wealth.

At the same time, the Supreme Court yesterday forwarded the text of the verdict convicting former Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka on corruption charge, to the Kathmandu District Court for implementation, as Khadka did not surrender himself to the Supreme Court to start his jail sentence following the verdict according to’ HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’. “As he did not surrender himself voluntarily, the text of the judgment was forwarded to the district court,” said Hemanta Rawal, assistant spokesperson for the apex court. “Now, the process of the execution will begin as per the law,” ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’ quotes Hemanta Rawal as saying.
