By KTM Metro Reporter

January 22, 2012: speaking at the memorial service held in honor of the recently died communist leader Bhakta Bahadur Shrestha in Hetauda yesterday, Prime Minister Bhattarai has said that his cabinet has decided to legalize the actions of the people’s courts and governments set up during the Maoists insurgency to end the confusion about the various transactions done at that time; it is not a big deal; if the opposition has some problems that could be resolved by discussions, so no need for stopping the House session for such a minor matter, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

Dr. Bhattarai has said that his cabinet has done nothing going against the Interim Constitution and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement rather legalizing the people’s courts and governments are following the Interim Constitution and Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and done for meeting the people’s expectations. The opposition has blown up this minor matter to the national issue causing the obstruction of the House session.

In a meeting with the members of the opposition parties, Dr. Bhattarai has assured them of not immediately enforcing the cabinet decision on legalizing the actions of the people’s courts and governments.

Hearing on the petition filed for revoking the cabinet decision on legalizing the actions of the people’s courts and governments, the Supreme Court of Nepal has instructed the government of Nepal not to enforce the decision on this matter until the court’s ruling on it.

At the same time, lawmakers belonging to the NC and CPN-UML have continued to obstruct the House session following the orders of their leaders until the government revokes the decision on legalizing the actions of the people’s courts and government set up by the Maoists during the conflict.
