Chitwan Area Tense: Three killed including a policeman

Indigenous people of the teria, Tharus have been shutting down the terai area protesting the government enlisting them on the list of the Madheshis for the last five days.

On Thursday, March 05, 2009, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ called on the protestors to sit for a dialogue, and urged them to call off their protests.

On Thursday, March 5, 2009, the police in an attempt to thwart the highway shutdown called by Tharus opened fire at the angry protestors killing two of them in Tandi of the Chitwan district.

On Friday, March 6, 2009, in retaliation to the police killing the protestors killed a policeman and seriously injured another despite the curfew imposed by the local administration.
