Nepali Congress Convention Begins With Mass Rally

September 17, 2010: Nepali Congress (NC) has held a mass rally at the Tundikhel in Kathmandu today afternoon to starts off its 12th Convention. Leaders of major political parties are present in the mass rally. Acting President of NC Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba have jointly opened the 12th General Convention of Nepali Congress.

Thousands of party cadres have attended the mass rally. They have come from all over Nepal to attend the convention. Representatives of major political parties including Prime Minister are in the inaugural function of the 12th convention. Representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal and leaders of various parties of foreign countries have also participated in the mass rally.

The closed sessions of the convention will start on September 18, 2010. The convention will elect office-bearers and members of the Central Working Committee before ending the convention on September 21

For the President of the party, Acting President Sushil Koirala, Senior Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and another Senior Leader Bhim Bahadur Tamang are contesting.

Koirala has Prakashman Singh and Padam Narayan Chaudhari as the candidates for the general secretary and treasurer respectively whereas Deuba has Bimalendra Nidhi and Chitralekha Yadav as the candidates for the same positions resepctively; however, Tamang has Narhari Acharya as the candidate for the general secretary but not appointed any candidate for the treasurer.
