Submitting Lists Of Nominees for Proportional Representation

Issue 01, January 5, 2014

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 31, 2013: out of 30 parties represented in the newly elected Constituent Assembly (CA), 28 political parties have submitted the lists of their nominees to the Election Commission for proportional representation in the CA yesterday: the last deadline for doing so. Federal Social Party and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal could not finalize the names of nominees. So, they informed the EC that hey would not be able to submit the lists yesterday.

The RPP-Nepal has split into two, as the dissident group alleged the chairman choosing the names of nominees unilaterally without consulting the members of the central committee of the party. The rebel group wanted to submit its own list registering a new split-away party at the EC but the EC refused to accept it as a new party would not be registered without completing the election process, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

Some of the leaders that lost the direct elections have sent their spouses to represent their respective political parties. So, their presence at the CA would be felt. Two political couples have the opportunity to be at the CA. One couple is the Sher Bahadur Deuba of the NC, and another is of the Amrit Kumar Bohara of the CPN-UML, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
