Cleaning Bagmati River In Kathmandu

Issue April 2015

KTM Reporter

April 12, 2015: politicians had broken the record on cleaning up the Bagmati River in Kathmandu. All the top political leaders including the prime minister, the speaker and the opposition leaders, and eccentric leader Oli were among the one hundred and fifty thousands cleaners on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Speaker Subhas Nemwang were fresh from the office duty as they were in the full official attire. They must have mistaken the collection of trash from the Bagmati River for the official duty at the Singhadurbar Secretariat. So, they did not come on overall rather on the official uniforms. So, anybody could think what these official guys did not come for cleaning up the river but for a show.

Chief civil servant Lilami Poudel had been spearheading the Bagmati River Cleanup. Even after so many weeks these officials had been collecting trashes from the river every Saturdays and holidays, every time they went to clean up the river they found as much trashes as they did in the previous cleanup day. So, some people must be dumping trashes on the river for the State officials to collect.

The Bagmati River had been sewage. The government had been shamelessly and sinfully dumping the sewage. The holy river had been carrying heavily the human waste. State officials including the chief civil servant had been cleaning up the holy river without considering to stop the sewage from flowing in it.

The Bagmati River had been so holy every Hindu wishes for having the last gulp of water from this river at the time of death. So, families used to rush their dying loved ones to Bagmati River at the time of dying. Then, they offered the holy water from the Bagmati River to the dying persons at the time of dying. This has been the thing of past.

Lord Pashupati had made his abode next to the Bagmati River. It had provided holy water for purification rituals of the lord for millennia. Now, the town-water-supply tap has been providing water for bathing the lord and for purification rituals every day. The lord must bee disgusted with the Nepalese officials that had permitted to release the human feces in the Bagmati River. The lord has not cursed the Nepalese officials yet but time will soon come when the third eye of lord will open and burn the faulty officials.
