By KTM Metro Reporter

September 17, 2013: in a statement issued in Kathmandu yesterday, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has strongly opposed the cadres of CPN-Maoists setting fire on a bus carrying passengers in Dhulikhel on Sunday, September 15, 2013, and the commission demanded the government to bring the perpetrators of setting fire on a passenger to justice, according to the news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

The cadres of CPN-Maoist and their associates torched a bus with registration no: Ba 2 Kha 5672 on charge of defying a shutdown called by an alliance of 33-party front. The front has announced shutdowns at different districts of Terai and Mid-hill demanding to postpone the Constituent Assembly elections scheduled for November 19 and withdrawal of price rise in the petroleum products.

The statement of the NHRC has stated that the burning of a bus was a severe attack on human rights, hence the commission demanded the State to investigate the incident and punished the guilty.

NHRC has stated that everyone has the right to put forth their note of dissent through peaceful protests and demonstrations in a democratic country but such a destructive act violets the rights of citizens to live in a fearless environment.

Other human rights organizations such as Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC), INHURED International, National Human Rights Academy and Human Rights and Peace have also shown its concern over the incident in their individual statement.
