Kudos To Revelers Of Bisket jatra In Bhaktapur

Issue April 2015

KTM Metro Reporter

April 12, 2015: once again Bhaktapurians had celebrated the pulling of the chariot to Lord Bhairav in Bhaktapur on Friday, April 10, 2015. One thing they had continued since about 30 years was the tradition of hurling bricks at each other. Certainly, they must have enjoyed hurling bricks at each other as much as pulling the chariot to their destinations.

Among the youths pulling the chariot must have some other youths that enjoyed causing the hurling of bricks at each other. They must have created some reasons for the youths of both sides to throw stones at each other. It becomes a brick war among the youths of the same town. They must have some relatives on both sides. They must be throwing stones at each other.

These youths forgot that the pulling chariot to Lord Bhairav had been several-millennium culture. They needed to think that the culture must be preserved. To preserve the culture, they have to celebrate the pulling of the chariot as peacefully as possible. Youths of both sides must cooperate in amicably pulling the chariot otherwise the future generations will not forgive those distorting the culture.

Lord Bhairav must be watching how the youths had fought. If the youths were to continue such barbarian actions of hurling bricks then Lord Bhairav would punish those youths. So, be civil and act civilly and celebrate the festival peacefully.
